The Iconic Villain
Megatron maybe one heck of a famous Transformers, but his alternate form as a gun is certainly rare. As of now, there are only 2 incarnations of Megatron as a gun; first in Generations 1 as Walter P38 pistol and second was an alien gun in Classics collection.
MP-36 is amazing in his robot mode. Gun mode, however. ...there's some tale to consider...
 |
Almost perfect, except for the feet. |
Transformation
As a masterpiece, MP-36 is difficult to transform. One of the big notes for MP-36 transformation is paint-chip; yes, scratching and paint chips are unavoidable during the transformation.
There are no complicated parts that one couldn't follow based on the manual provided, hence nothing much to highlight over here. The engineering on MP-36 is something to be marveled at, but the transformation process is lack of enjoyment due to tight joints and 90 degrees folds. If anyone gets this, my advise is to transform it once, for the sake of loosening up the paints that can dry on the figure's joint overtime.
There are some problems with mine on the gun transformation.

There is a gap, it was impossible to align it. |
 |
Forcing the barrel to align causes a dent to the plastic. |
 |
Unavoidable paint scratches. |
Articulation
Robot mode: Amazing! Just spectacular, they even made a fold-able skirtlike hip. I really had no complains over this mode.
 |
No prime, no! |
Gun mode: The gun's trigger is a spring trigger. It's exactly the same as MP-05, which lost the fun like 'clicks' on G1. The barrel/silencer, balancer, and scope are retained in this version.
 |
Fits in the hand and the barrel has a bent look! |
 |
A gap at the end that let's off the vibe "I am fake" |
 |
Obviously, one can tell megatron is playing peek-a-boo. |
Features
MP-36 comes full with gimmicks.
Interchangeable face - 3 different face expressions.
Mace with 2 different chains.
 |
This is the articulated chain of the maze, there is another that just dangles the ball. |
Damage face and chestplate - A damaged face and a damaged chestplate
 |
Posted again! |
Gun equipment - Exactly as G1 gun; a barrel, a shoulder recoil (something at the end of the gun) and a scope can be attached to the pistol. These extra pieces can even transform to a cannon, similar to the G1 toy.
Vector Sigma key - Replacing kreemzek (in MP-05), this version comes with a full die-case vector sigma key.
All in All
Being an Asian, my Megatron doesn't come with a "yellow cap". I am not sure why that is needed, the gun mode is not very convincing to be real. Anyway, keeping this figure in robot mode alone is sufficient; the good news is that, Takara is packaging it in robot mode! I love the figure and it's really hard to get Megatron with a gun alternate mode...unlike his arch enemy.
This figure is almost perfect, just lacking the accuracy on the robot's feet; too slim compared to the cartoon version.

Truck! Truck! Truck! |
 |
One last thing, the barrel has some special peg that sticks out. Not sure what it is for.
UPDATE: It's for one of the alternate robot mode display! |
