MP-20 Masterpiece Wheeljack

Inventor of the dinobots.

The other face-plated transformer who doesn't have much expression. Uniquely in the cartoon, Wheeljack's face-plate and his 2 wings lights-up when he talks.

Impression

The vehicle mode looks sporty in the 80's. The figure is purely plastics without diecast and the tyres are made of plastic as well. The bottom of the car hides everything neatly. Nonetheless the vehicle mode is sturdy and robust.

The robot mode however is flimsy, as the center of the body is hollow. The back of the Wheeljack do looks unfinished, as the back panel could not fully hide the back. There is also some hollow plastics parts on arm. However it is really show accurate in every aspect.

Transformation

Easy, but the wings are prone to break!

Firstly, there are 2 hinges on the feet. It is not very visible in the instructions, maybe it was written but the instruction was in Japanese.

Secondly the wings that sticks behind wheeljack are made from non-durable and translucent plastics. In other words, the wings are easily breakable. What is important during the transformation is that, I need to fold the wings "BEFORE" twisting it in vehicle mode and visa-versa in roboto mode. IF in any case, that I fold the wings outward before twisting, there is a 100% chance that I'll break the hinges of the wings.

The chest folds outwards to reveal the head, pretty cool feature.

Articulation

Like all masterpiece, wheeljack is very articulated. The head only swivels left and right, while the rest of the parts from elbows to knees have a good bend range.

Features

Sadly, Wheeljack being the scientist and engineer comes packaged with only 2 accessories.

Pistol - This is a small gun with a nice storage feature in the bottom of the car.

Missle Cannon - The signature missile for Wheeljack, that can be attached on both robot's shoulders, or in the center of the vehicle mode.

Anti hypnosis - A giveaway exclusive that comes separately for purchasing Wheeljack.

2 sets of side mirrors - I have not opened it; though basically it's just to be attached as side mirrors of the car.

All in All

I would say wheeljack was a bit of disappointment within the masterpiece line, the main reason is the upper robot body part is not sturdy; pegs starts to detach when small forces are applied on the chest area.

Meanwhile, he is still worth getting as he is one of the key characters in G1. What is more is that, he is really show accurate, from top-to-bottom and from vehicle-to-robot. Loved him.
